Work on a comic
The Hare and the Tortoise by anonymous
Hey folks:
On today's class we are going to work with this popular tale "The Hare and the Tortoise". The first thing I want you to do is to look at the comic and write an ending to the story. I know many of you are familiar with this tale, so you will have to write an alternative ending. It doesn't have to be in comic style, but in regular narrative. You'll have to write 50-70 words. On next class we'll read some of them in class, so I want you to handle me the activities before then.
For the second activity, you'll have to read the whole text and answe these questions:
¿Who ends up winning the race?
¿Which animal acted as the judge?
The last activity is read again the whole text and find all the verbs in past simple text, and divide them in two groups: regular and irregular.
The hare and the tortoise
A Hare was making fun of the Tortoise one day
for being so slow.
"Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked
with a mocking laugh.
"Yes," replied the Tortoise,
"and I get there sooner than you think. I'll run you a race and prove
it."
The Hare was much amused at the idea of running
a race with the Tortoise, but for the fun of the thing he agreed. So the Fox,
who had consented to act as judge, marked the distance and started the runners
off.
The Hare was soon far out of sight, and to make
the Tortoise feel very deeply how ridiculous it was for him to try a race with
a Hare, he lay down beside the course to take a nap until the Tortoise should
catch up.
The Tortoise meanwhile kept going slowly but
steadily, and, after a time, passed the place where the Hare was sleeping. But
the Hare slept on very peacefully; and when at last he did wake up, the
Tortoise was near the goal. The Hare now ran his swiftest, but he could not
overtake the Tortoise in time.
Slow and steady wins the race.

(Esta actividad está pensada para alumnos de 2º de la ESO, ya que la dificultad de las actividades es muy baja, y el texto es también bastante fácil).
